In 2022 Kyiv, as Russian missiles fall, historian Olesia Verbytska shelters in the Feofanija monastery district and discovers her grandmother's diaries encrypted in balanced ternary code. Decoding them, she uncovers Fanya's hidden life as a Soviet computer pioneer and a coerced KGB swallow sent to seduce an American engineer during the Cold War. Between the binary of loyalty and betrayal, Fanya discovers a 'third state' of private truth.

I rode standing on a GAZ bed up to Xinaliq and spent the last morning looking for a radio museum that does not appear to exist. At gate six the same form got printed in the other direction, and that was that.

The Debed gorge in a borrowed green Niva: Sanahin's black basalt in the morning, three locomotives asleep in the Alaverdi yard, a booked hour at a telescope from 1975 on the slope of Aragats. The reason for the whole trip was the great dish at Orgov, a giant ear rusting in a gorge. Yerevan afterward was thirty degrees, and I walked through the fountain on purpose.

Navigation by paper map and a barakholka laptop that boots like a tractor.

In Engilchek I sat on the ledge of an apartment nobody ever finished, and I rode pillion through the first snow with the sheep flowing around the horse.

The last frame is me, at the edge of Pripyat, and then the drive home to saturation.
